F1 vs F1B Goldendoodle & Labradoodles

Shown here is Daisy (F1 Goldendoodle) w/F1B Offspring

Doodles come in many varieties with the most significant difference being coat color and shedding characteristics. F1 Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are a cross between a Standard Poodle and  Golden Retriever or in the case of the Labradoodle, a LabradorRetriever. The offspring from this pairing will have a wide variety of coats varying from smooth to curly.

F1B Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are offspring from an F1 Goldendoodle/Labradoodle parent and a pure-bred Standard Poodle.  This is sometimes called “2nd Generation”, “Multi-Generation” or “Back-bred” and is done to inject more of the purebred coat quality into the future offspring. The result of this breeding is more predictability in the coat quality and shedding characteristics, thus producing a more hypoallergenic dog.  A favorite amongst those with dog allergies.

The general rule is the curlier the coat, the less shedding there will be. If you are looking for a puppy that doesn’t shed whatsoever then you would want to choose an F1B Puppy with the curliest coat possible. If some light shedding is tolerable then an F1 or F1B puppy with smooth to wavy coats would be desirable. We take great pride in helping you select your new puppy, just let us know what characteristics you desire and we are happy to help.
